What are Claude Code mods?
Mods are small plugins that change how Claude Code looks and behaves: a status line, a live pane, a toast when work is done, or a hook that checks what happens in your session.
A mod in one sentence
A Claude Code mod is a plugin made of hooks: small functions that run at fixed moments in a session and can add to the interface or react to what is happening. Mods work in the terminal and in the Code tab of the desktop app.
What mods can add
- Status lines that show your branch, test results or token use at a glance.
- Panes and bands with live information next to the conversation, such as a running test watcher.
- Toasts that tell you when a long task has finished.
- Hooks that act on events, for example redacting secrets from output or adding context to a prompt.
How mods differ from other extensions
Claude Code can be extended in several ways, including skills, slash commands and MCP servers. Those mostly give Claude new knowledge or new tools. A mod changes the session itself: what you see on screen and what happens around each prompt, tool call and response.
Why a mod deserves a second look
A mod runs inside your coding session. Depending on the events it hooks into, it can see prompts, tool calls and output. That is what makes mods useful, and it is also why you should know what a mod does before you install it.
modsforClaude lists each mod with its source, the events it hooks into, a pinned commit and a review status, so you can decide with the facts in front of you.
