How to install Claude Code mods safely

A mod runs inside your coding session. Five checks before you install one, and how this directory helps with each.

Install from the official directory

Install mods through the official Claude directory, not from a zip file or a script someone posted. modsforClaude never hosts or repackages mods. Every install link on this site points to the official directory, and every listing links to the source on GitHub.

Five checks before you install

  1. Read the source. Mods are usually small. If the source is not public, or you cannot follow what it does, skip it.
  2. Look at the hooked events. A status line that only draws on screen is very different from a mod that reads every prompt or tool call. The listing shows which events a mod hooks into.
  3. Check the commit. A review says something about one version of the code. Compare the pinned commit on the listing with what you are about to install.
  4. Look for network calls. Most mods have no reason to send anything anywhere. If one does, the reason should be obvious and documented.
  5. Start small. Try a new mod in a project without secrets or customer data first.

What a review status means here

A mod is listed as reviewed when someone has read the source at a specific commit. When the author publishes new commits after that, the listing changes to new version, not yet reviewed until it has been looked at again.

A review is a second pair of eyes, not a guarantee. It does not replace your own judgement, and it is not an endorsement by Anthropic. This is an unofficial community site.
