Hooked events

When Claude finishes a turn, next-steps shows up to three likely follow-up prompts in a band above the input, such as running the tests you just wrote or a slash command that fits. Press 1, 2 or 3 (or click one) and that prompt lands in the prompt box as a draft you can edit; 0 dismisses. The top suggestion is also offered as ghost text, so Tab takes it. It never sends a prompt by itself.

Good to know

  • To come up with the suggestions it asks the model once more after each turn, in a fork of your session. That fork shares the prompt cache, so it costs about one short reply per turn.
  • The suggestions are model output, and the mod cleans them before showing them: control characters, escape sequences and hidden Unicode are stripped, and a suggestion naming a slash command you do not have is dropped.
  • Suggestions draw in the terminal; other surfaces show nothing.
  • Options: skip suggestions after short answers (minAnswerChars, default 80) and whether to suggest your skills and slash commands (suggestSkills).
