A status line entry under the prompt that keeps the state of your repository in view while Claude works:
main ↑2 ↓1 · 3 uncommitted
feature/login · clean
detached at 391bb54 · cleanIt shows the current branch (or the short commit when HEAD is detached), how many commits you are ahead of and behind the upstream branch, and how many files have uncommitted changes. Outside a git repository the entry stays empty.
The entry is filled when the session starts and refreshed after tool calls that can change the working tree, such as edits and shell commands. Reads do not trigger a refresh.
The mod runs git locally to read the status. It makes no network calls and stores nothing.
